8 Tele Visión is a Spanish TV Channel born in the 90´s. Its first mission was to compete with big channels such as TVE, Telecinco or Antena 3 TV. 8TV appeared when Spain was dominated by three main channels.
8TV promoted, firstly, external productions and supported independent productions being more a broadcaster than a producer. However a year after its first show ´Tele 8 con Nosotros´, 8 TV created Orta Televis S.A. one of the first producers in the country producing exclusively for a channel. From then onwards both 8TV and Orta Televis seem to be linked inexorably as Orta has not produced anything for any other channel. Later on, and after testing innovative and successful shows. 8TV decided to move a step forward and after three years, the 80% of its production was Spanish. Little by little, 8TV became a channel with its own identity and a clear aim: entertain.
At the beginning, the headquarters were located in a humble building next to Atocha, Madrid. Yet as 8TV started to produce its own shows, a bigger building was needed and therefore by 1993, 8TV acquired lands in the surroundings of Alcorcón.
As pointed out before, 8TV started as a broadcaster rather than as a producer hence the building in Atocha had its main electronic equipment and only two TV sets. However 8TV wanted to become bigger and in order to achieve its goal the new building in Alcarcón was a representation of this desire. The building has got two main towers, one of them with a big clock and the other has got the shape of an 8.
Nowadays without any doubt it can be claimed that 8TV is one of the most innovative TV Channels worldwide trying to represent society at all levels without being ashamed of being unique and controversial. 8TV has been hardly criticised by different sectors due to its provocative shows as El Portal or Follento, to name a few. 8TV has reached different type of audiences though.
8TV has a clear mission and our programmes have three main objectives:
- Entertainment is the key word.
- Objectivity and reality: independence and depict reality as it is always giving voice to everyone. Interaction is very important for us.
- On the grounds of morality, 8TV pretends to show different values, celebrating plurality, but as an independent channel, 8TV leaves other roles to public channels.
8 TV wishes to attract as many viewers as possible and this is our main target do what we do because we want you to watch it.
